Xuan paper mounted on cardstocks. 四邊是 紙,不是絲綢 (The borders are made of paper, not silk).
Intertwined branches or the love tree
Literally, it refers to two different trees whose branches have grown and grafted together. Metaphorically, it is a classic Chinese poetic symbol for deeply devoted, inseparable lovers, a loving married couple, conjugal union, or intimate relationship. (Shared in FB Sumi-e)
"In the heavens, we wish to be birds flying wing to wing; on the earth, we wish to be intertwined branches." (在天愿作比翼鸟,在地愿为连理枝)
詩經 求其友
The exact phrase is "嚶其鳴矣,求其友聲".
Originating from the poem Fa Mu (伐木, Woodcutting) in the Classic of Poetry ( 詩經 ), it translates to:
"Its cries resound, seeking the voice of its companion."
Metaphorically, it translates to: "A bird sings to seek a friend's response," which symbolizes people searching for friends who share the same ideals and interests.
求其友 may refer to animals or humans looking for love or a relationship.

Fish falling from the sky is a documented weather anomaly known as "animal rain." As the heaven is descending fish for the bird, this painting and its inscription imply that trillions and millions of dollars will be rushing in to you so fiercely and you cannot stop it.
天賜奇觀 Heaven-sent spectacle
億兆猛進 Trillions and millions of dollars rushing to you in a fierce and unstoppable way.
石來運轉 translates to "Fortune turns for the better" or "Luck turns around". It is a clever wordplay on the Chinese idiom 《時來運轉》 (shí lái yùn zhuǎn), where the character for time (時) is replaced by stone (石), symbolizing a shift in luck brought by a fortuitous stone or piece of jade.

A king sent two officials to invite the philosopher Zhuangzi to become a high-ranking government official. Zhuangzi, fishing by the river, ignored them and asked: "I am told there is a sacred turtle in your country that died three thousand years ago.... It symbolizes a reclusive, humble lifestyle. It means valuing personal freedom, peace, and authenticity over the wealth, prestige ...
Here in this painting, I substitute a fish for the turtle. (Complete anecdote and metaphors)
Preserving withered lotus leaves to listen to the rain.
Only the withered lotus leaves are left to hear the sound of rain.
This signifies a melancholy yet artistic appreciation of a withered, autumn lotus pond, finding beauty in decay and quiet sadness. It was famously quoted by Lin Daiyu in Dream of the Red Chamber (紅樓夢) to appreciate the beauty of fading nature.
